The eye contour area is one of the most fragile parts of the face, which is why it’s often the first to show wrinkles, fine lines and other signs of ageing. There are several reasons for this:
Thinner skin – The skin around the eyes is much thinner than on other parts of the face and contains fewer sebaceous (oil) glands. This means it is naturally drier and less protected.
Constant movement – We blink up to 12 times per minute, and the skin around the eyes also moves when we smile, laugh or frown. This repeated motion contributes to fine lines forming more quickly.
Frequent rubbing – Many of us rub our eyes without realising it, which can weaken the delicate skin barrier over time.
Environmental and lifestyle factors – Sun exposure, pollution, smoking and fatigue can accelerate skin ageing by generating oxidative stress that damages collagen and elastin.
As a result, the eye area is more prone to dark circles, puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles than other parts of the face.
