FAQs

There's no single answer. The Sebium range offers several options designed for combination, oily, and acne-prone skin, so you can choose the most suitable cleanser based on your skin type and current concerns.

Here’s how to decide:

  • For combination to oily skin - Sebium Foaming Gel is a gentle foaming cleanser that removes excess sebum and impurities without stripping the skin.

  • For oily, acne-prone skin – Sebium Active Foaming Gel Cleanser provides a deeper cleanse, helping to reduce blemishes and regulate oil production.

  • For acne-prone skin experiencing dryness - Sebium Hydra Cleanser is ideal if your skin feels tight or irritated due to acne medication or harsh treatments, as it cleanses while maintaining hydration.

  • For a no-rinse option – Sebium H2O Micellar Water gently removes make-up, oil and impurities without needing to rinse, making it a quick and convenient choice for oily or combination skin.

By selecting the right cleanser from the Sebium range, you can target shine, breakouts, or sensitivity while respecting the skin’s natural balance.

There are several different types of rinse and non-rinse cleansers for acne-prone skin. If you have pimples and other imperfections, Sebium Active Foaming Gel is better suited to your skin than Sebium Foaming Gel as it contains salicylic acid and glycolic acid to help unclog pores and refine skin texture. Zinc gluconate regulates shine and reduces pimples and blackheads. For enhanced results, use Sebium Kerato+ in the morning and/or evening. If you are following a medical acne treatment, it’s best to choose a gentle cleanser like  Sebium Foaming Gel to purify the skin without further drying it out. If your skin is already very dry from the treatment, use soap-free Sebium Hydra Cleanser to restore comfort immediately and over time.

Yes, all the cleansers in the Bioderma Sebium range have been clinically tested to ensure that they are non-comedogenic, this is so they won’t clog or block the pores on your skin.

Very oily skin is usually a result of excessive sebum production. The sebum is also thicker than usual. This means that it is more likely to accumulate under the skin, clogging your pores. To prevent the appearance of pimples and imperfections, it’s therefore essential to cleanse your skin in the morning and evening. Evening cleansing is especially important, even if you don't wear make-up, as pollution, sweat and sebum build up during the day.

Cleansing your face in the morning and evening with a cleanser formulated for oily skin will help prevent the appearance of spots and pimples. Cleansing twice a day is an ideal frequency to manage imperfections while avoiding possible discomfort from over-cleansing, such as dryness, tingling and tightness.

Dermatologists recommend that you don’t wash your face with hot water, regardless of your skin type - including oily and acne-prone skin. Hot water can dry out the skin and dissolve its protective hydrolipidic film. Cold water tightens pores and helps reduce inflammation if you have pimples. However, it is much less effective at removing oily particles of make-up and pollution. We therefore recommend washing your face with lukewarm water.

If you're in a hurry, you can cleanse your face in the shower provided you use a specific rinse-off cleanser for oily skin - not just shower gel. Given that it’s best to use lukewarm water rather than very hot water, it may well be more convenient to cleanse your face after the shower.

No, the exact time doesn’t matter. However, it is best to cleanse in the morning when you wake up and before bed. Cleansing in the morning and evening with an adapted product has been proven to be highly effective in helping reduce the appearance of pimples and other imperfections.

Oily skin is caused by an overproduction of sebum, the skin’s natural oil. If you have oily skin, you’ll often notice:

  • Shine - your skin becomes increasingly shiny during the day, especially across the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin).

  • Visible pores - pores may appear enlarged or more noticeable.

  • Uneven texture - the complexion can look dull, irregular or congested.

  • Blemishes - oily skin is often acne-prone, meaning blackheads, spots and other imperfections are more likely to develop.

If these signs sound familiar, you may have oily skin. Using a gentle cleanser for oily skin and non-comedogenic products can help regulate excess oil and keep your skin balanced.
